New Engineering Lab Equipment Arrives

Students in laboratory

Ekurhuleni West TVET College is proud to announce the arrival of state-of-the-art equipment for our engineering laboratories, marking a significant enhancement to our practical learning facilities. This investment of over R5 million in advanced technology will provide our students with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment.

The new equipment includes:

  • Advanced 3D printers capable of working with multiple materials
  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines for precision manufacturing
  • Robotics kits and programmable logic controllers
  • Advanced electronic testing and measurement devices
  • Renewable energy demonstration systems

Enhancing Practical Skills

This equipment upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring our graduates are job-ready with practical skills that meet industry demands. Students will now be able to work with the same technology they will encounter in the workplace, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

"This investment represents our dedication to providing world-class technical education," said Dr. Ntombi Makhanya, Head of Engineering Studies. "Our students will now have access to equipment that many professionals in the industry are using, giving them a competitive edge in the job market."

Industry Partnerships

The acquisition of this equipment was made possible through partnerships with leading industry players who recognize the importance of well-trained technical professionals. These partnerships also include opportunities for internships and workplace experience, further enhancing our students' employability.

The new lab equipment will be available to students starting from the beginning of the next term, with special workshops planned to introduce students and faculty to the new technology.

Future Developments

This upgrade is just the first phase of our planned improvements to technical facilities across all campuses. Over the next three years, the college plans to invest an additional R15 million in upgrading workshops and laboratories to ensure our students have access to the best possible learning environments.

The college is also exploring opportunities for industry-sponsored projects that will allow students to apply their skills to real-world challenges, further enhancing the practical component of their education.
