On September 12, 2025, Ekurhuleni West TVET College (EWC) hosted a dynamic Try a Skill Career Fair in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education – Ekurhuleni South and North Districts. This impactful event brought together learners from 31 schools in the Kathorus and Tembisa areas, who converged at the Germiston Campus to explore exciting opportunities in the TVET sector.
The Career Fair aimed to promote the TVET sector, showcase college offerings, and highlight career and entrepreneurship opportunities available to high school learners. The event's structure allowed learners to engage with various speakers, visit stalls, and experience the college's workshops and simulation facilities, providing a comprehensive understanding of the TVET sector.
Learners benefited from the Career Fair in numerous ways, including:
- Gaining clarity on college offerings and NSFAS bursaries;
- Provision of insights into various career paths and opportunities;
- Participating in simple projects, sparking interest in Engineering Studies and informed study choices;
- Exploring various fields of study within the TVET sector;
- Gaining first-hand experience of campus life.
The Career Fair attracted over 1500 attendees, making it a resounding success. Supporting organizations, including merSETA, CETA,W & R SETA, SAQA, Department of Labour, IEC, Tshwane South TVET College, Ekurhuleni East TVET College, FESTO, and NEPO, contributed to the event's impact.
Somizi Mhlongo, a renowned South African actor, choreographer, and television personality, gave a motivational talk, inspiring learners to pursue their passions. DJ Tira entertained the learners, creating an energetic atmosphere.
EWC appreciates the endorsement and contributions made by the Gauteng Department of Education – Ekurhuleni South and North Districts and the support from partnering organizations. This event has undoubtedly empowered future leaders, providing them with the knowledge and inspiration needed to make informed decisions about their academic and professional pursuits.
By hosting this Career Fair, EWC has demonstrated its commitment to transforming lives and building futures through quality education. As a beacon of excellence in technical and vocational education, EWC continues to prepare students for successful careers in an ever-evolving global economy.
