EWC's Boksburg Campus Hosts South Africa-China Enterprise & Trade Association (SACETA) Job Fair Expo

The Ekurhuleni West TVET College’s Boksburg Campus hosted more 40 Chinese companies operating in South Africa for the inaugural South Africa-China Enterprise and Trade Association (SACETA) Job Fair, organised in partnership with the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre (CCIEEC). The event was held in April 2019.

The Job Fair was aimed at connecting young, unemployed South Africans with Chinese companies that are able to offer experiential training and work opportunities. The event attracted over 1000 students who were seeking information and jobs from the Chinese companies. Students from other TVET colleges, who did their internships in China, were invited to come and browse opportunities being presented by Chinese companies.

Addressing the audience, the Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, H.E. Lin Songtian, said that there is a need for more Chinese companies to invest in South Africa and be part of its economic development.

China has committed to more investment in South Africa, and Chinese investors have been steadily building their direct and indirect investments in South Africa in various sectors such as manufacturing, banking, textiles and property.

Mr Wayne Adams, Acting CEO of merSETA, said that there is a need to step up training in various artisanal trades to meet the country’s demands. He appreciated the training opportunities that are given to young South Africans in China, as well as the exposure they are getting through these types of events.

Ms Hellen Ntlatleng, Regional Manager for Gauteng and Free State Province, expressed her gratitude to the learners who came back from a year-long internship in China. She also thanked merSETA for paving the way for the other SETAs to partner with the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre.

The event emerged a success as result of the collaboration between the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre, the China Economic and Trade Association, merSETA, and Ekurhuleni West TVET College.
