EWC Hosts 2nd BRICS TVET President's Forum

Ekurhuleni West TVET College was afforded the opportunity to host the 2nd BRICS TVET President Forum, held from 11 - 13 July 2023. The event was hosted at the Boksburg Campus.

The BRICS TVET President Forum was held as part of the build-up to the 15th BRICS Summit, to be chaired by President Cyril Ramaphosa in August 2023.

The theme of the Forum was "Skilling for Growth, Development and Poverty Reduction through Vocational Education and Training."

The forum took forward five thematic areas that have been identified to the BRICS Ministers of Education for adoption. Such areas included: BRICS TVET cooperation; purposeful partnerships for Workplace-Based Learning (WBL) amidst employer reluctance; fostering of entrepreneurship skills in the TVET sector; green skills in vocational education and training; hybrid / blended teaching and learning in a vocational institutes to improve student access in a post-covid context.

The forum was attended in person by approximately two hundred officials, including 19 delegates from the People’s Republic of China, with the balance made up of attendees from the TVET colleges, Department of Higher Education and Training officials, and delegates from various representative organisations from within the country. The Forum was also attended virtually by 67 delegates from the various BRICS member countries.
